Welcome to October, Saints.
Man, wasn't it just July?? The year is flying by. Before you know it, we'll be in the mad fall holiday rush, with harvest parties, Thanksgiving turkey and dressing (hallelujah), Christmas season, and New Year's, all seemingly running together like a freight train. Then it's 2026! Buckle up, people.
I read this past week that revivalist/evangelist Charles Finney (roughly ministering 1825–1860) had six kids... and all of them came to faith after he died. Was he concerned for their eternal fate? Do you suppose he prayed for them? No doubt. I'll bet he saw the answer by faith, trusting in the God who loved them more than he did. Someone once said that our prayers outlive us. Finney was a great example of that, his prayers extending beyond his earthly demise. Keep praying...
What's Goin' On...
*TONITE! Is the October Hymn Sing and Prayer time at 6:30. Gather in the fellowship hall; snacks afterward are courtesy of the Lowry home group.
*This Sunday begins the quilt raffle sale that will benefit Showers of Blessing, the group that showers young moms and babies with needed items. Tickets are $1; the drawing will be on October 25 at the craft fair.
*Thursday, October 9 is the Sisterhood Social from 7 to 8:30pm. Dessert will be on. Come on down and meet some new sisters.
*Saturday October 11 at 1pm we'll remember the life of longtime C3 attendee Charlotte Guy with her memorial service.
*The Men's Retreat is Nov 7-9th up at Riverview Bible Camp. Lotsa good food, fellowship, activities and more (teaching from a couple of pastors, too). Corn hole! Sign up after the service; $120 gets you the room & food. If you need some $ assistance, don't hesitate to see Steve or Bud.
We Need YOU...
*To pray for and ask around for a new regular Nursery Worker. It's a paid position, $20 per hour at somewhere between 2.5 and 3 hours. Background check a must. Others rotate in for assistance. See our office admin Melissa or Vickie H. for more info.
*To bring cookies! (Or a suitable snack for the post-service mingle time). We also need assistance for this Sunday and October 12 to help set that up. Check out the sign-up board on the table in the fellowship hall.
This Sunday...
We have a quarterly Concert of Prayer, that combination of worship, scriptural encouragement, prayer and Communion. Our focus is on the attributes of God. One of my new regular prayers is that we encounter God as we gather together. The Chicago pastor AW Tozer used to pray that his congregation would sense the felt presence of God in their services. We meet not just to sing and listen, which is fine, but most importantly to be with God together.
See you Sunday?
Pastor Rob
p.s. Musings (or did I rename this Meanderings??), on a bumper sticker: "If you can read this, I've lost my trailer."
