Late September Salutations, People.

I've been reading in Matthew's gospel (chapter 11) and I came upon this. It got me thinking. John the Baptist sent his disciples to Jesus to ask this: "Are you the one who is to come or should we expect someone else?" What's the deal John? Didn't you baptize people in preparation for Jesus? Didn't you point to him and say, "Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world"? Then why the question?

Could it be that John thought his circumstances would be a bit better if he obeyed God? John was, after all, Jesus' cousin. Maybe he thought he deserved better circumstances than prison. Jesus sends back an answer to John about the healing going on, and he ends with this: "Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me."    How might we stumble because of Jesus? When he doesn't do things we think he should. When he does things we don't like. When we think God has allowed the wrong thing to happen. Next time you're simmering in the juices of disappointment because Jesus didn't come thru like you wanted, let this simmer as well: "Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me."

What's Goin' On...

*Home Groups are kicking off! If you don't have one, pick up the blue half sheets in the foyer and visit one. We get to know and care for one another better when we hang out in smaller groups.

*Elinor Young, our resident missionary with post-polio is now in Alabama, speaking at a missions conference and more with Katy assisting. Pray for spiritual, physical and emotional strength for the next week of meetings. Thank you.

*We support of kids in the community who don't have food for the weekends. The program is Bite 2 Go. In conjunction with 2nd Harvest Food Bank, Cindi helps distribute to the two elementary schools in our area. We help by funding it. $184 pays for one child for the year, or you can pay monthly at $23. Write checks to CCC and put 'Bite 2 Go' in the memo line. 100% goes to food for the kids. Thank you!

*Our potluck is THIS SUNDAY after the service! Yeehaw! If your last name starts with A-J, please bring a main dish and a dessert. If K-Z, a main dish and a salad. Come on down and enjoy food and fellowship.

The Sisterhood Social is on Oct 9 from 7 to 8:30pm at the church. Tea, coffee, dessert and getting to know other women is the focus.

*Sign up continues for the Men's Retreat up at Riverview Bible Camp for the weekend of Nov 7-9. $120 gets you two nights, great food, teaching, recreation and hanging out with other guys. I hear there may be another corn hole tourney...

This Sunday...

Rick continues his teaching on the Bible in Ace at 9. Downstairs, Story Hour for kids will be again on Elijah ("Great Balls of Fire!"). The kids will make flat bread. Upstairs, Ambassadors for Christ continues in scintillating discussion with the older kids. And in the service, we'll look at the return of Jesus from Revelation. Against my better judgment, I will reveal when Jesus will return, backed up with scripture.    Now I've got your attention!   :-)

Oh! And don't forget the potluck after the service.

See you Sunday?
